Werner Buettner, center, is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ratzeburg. The amount of work this man is doing for the refugees in his small town in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, is admirable and likely will never be forgotten by those he’s helped. Here, he’s seated next to Syrian refugee Tarek, as they both try to help the man at the window (whose identity I have hidden). The man, looking defeated and tired, was seeking help on what to do next because he was being deported. He needed a one-way ticket back to Iraq. Werner jumped into action, taking notes and talking with both men on how to deal with the situation. I plan to follow up to see what happened to the man at the window.
